LONDON
Wood Lane Studios
Wood Lane Studios was constructed on the BBC’s former worldwide headquarters site near White City.
The scheme required the removal and replacement of 1000m² of cladding and helping hand brackets as part of this development for 606 self-contained studio apartments for postgraduate students. Re-developed over four ten-storey concrete frame blocks and three three-storey timber frame key worker accommodation blocks, the project used a range of attractive façade elements including ceramic rainscreen cladding, stone cladding, brickwork and cedar. A range of 140mm and 180mm Rockwool Duo stone wool slab was used behind the cladding in achieving U Values of 0.25W/m²K and 0. 28W/m²K.
A combination of cladding was used on the scheme, with both high gloss and matt ceramic cladding, contrasting to the honed and sandblasted Jura Gold Limestone stone cladding. Honed cladding is specifically abraded with a diamond coated grinder to provide an unpolished smooth consistent surface with little or no reflection.

Wood Lane Studios was not without its own challenges. The site had a live student accommodation environment and
therefore the installation was required to abide by restricted working hours due to noise and pedestrian traffic.
Working within this environment also meant that there was a requirement for extremely high-level health and safety
scrutiny as well as a need for a very high degree of operative and equipment visibility.
Working with large-scale projects that have a high level of operational difficulty is something FCS Facades Limited are
familiar with, and within our organisation we have the expertise and delivery methods to achieve superior quality
facades within the constraints of the scheme environment.
